Born in 1948 in Southgate, north London, Lin has lived in Dorset for 42 years. Working with husband and business partner Vince for most of this period – a successful marketing company was created and Lin became a full time company director. Just over 10 years ago Lin and Vince decided to gently change direction and Lin took this opportunity to become a pastel artist and then developed her painting skills.

“Some people say what can I paint? I say…
Look up at the sky to the light. It’s all about the light.
The sky will be your inspiration”.

Lin Adams

Lin’s love of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex and Heath grows every year and many of her paintings have been inspired by the richness of the Dorset landscape. Through the seasons the ever changing light and dramatic skies of the Studland Peninsular and the Isle of Purbeck help Lin to create naturescapes – feeling the colour. Lin’s top tip… It’s never too late to try something new but it’s better to do it now rather than later.

The Art Garden Studio

Situated in the historic market town of Shaftesbury in Dorset, the Art Garden Studio is a quiet space where creativity is guaranteed to flow, a wonderful creative space, a hidden gem

“A space to learn – everyone is creative”.

You will find Lin’s paintings on display together with her daughter Sam’s watercolours. Both Lin and Sam share a passion for nature and spend many hours exploring the Dorset pathways for painting inspiration.

The Art Garden Studio and gallery is situated in Mustons Lane, just off the high street and a short walk from Gold Hill.

Our Dorset Pathways

There are many ways to reach the sea from Shaftesbury, this is one of our favourites:

“Leaving Shaftesbury we head down to the Blackmore Vale and then up – climbing the Wessex Heights to Bulbarrow Hill. Across to Bere Regis and onwards to Wareham Forest. The Heath and Purbeck hills are now in view and beyond is the sea at Studland.”

There are so many pathways and each one has its own identity.

Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury is a hill top town in North Dorset where King Alfred built an abbey and the Hovis boy took his bread and bicycle up to the top of Gold Hill. On a clear day the iconic views from Park Walk and Castle Hill are stunning and the air can be exhilarating in spring and summer if a little chilly in midwinter.
